Most of Hetai Town is mountainous, with deep mountainous areas distributed in the north and south, accounting for more than two-thirds of the town's area. The average altitude is 76.6 meters, with the highest point, Sanxianding, at 918 meters above sea level, the highest peak in the city; the lowest point, Hehai Langniukeng, at 104 meters above sea level.

Because "Tai" and "Tai" are homophones, it became "Hetai".
